Nebraska Association of Fair Managers Annual Convention

         The Annual Convention of the Nebraska Association of Fair Managers was held at the Nebraska State Fair Grounds, January 23, 2021.  The convention was modified to a one-day meeting following local Department of Health Guidelines. The theme was "TOGETHER WE ARE FAIR STRONG"

 

      Forty-eight County Fairs were represented at convention and eight County Fairs attended virtually.  Also attending were twenty-three Associate Members. Other attendees included the State Fair Board and Staff, families of the Fair Person of the Year and Scholarship winners.

    During the meeting, twenty-eight individuals were recognized for their Years of Service to their local County ranging from 15 to 55 years. Ron Gade received recognition for his 55 years of service to the Seward County Fair Board.

Five individuals were recognized as Outstanding Individuals at their local County level.

A memorial service recognized 14 individual Fair Board members that had passed away in 2020.

 The Fair Person of the Year was presented to Rex Mussman of Fillmore County for his countless hours and dedication to the Fair Board.

 Don and Martha Romeo Scholarships were presented to Jayce Meyring of Alliance and Gracie Schneider of Coazd Ne.

Past Presidents Scholarship was presented to Toriann Likens of Fairbury Nebraska.

We also recognized 6 individuals with the most creative mask, with top honors going to Joe Standerford for his mask displaying a likeness of a Holstein cow.

During the Annual meeting, Alan Kahle from Kearney County was elected President, Greg Heine from Cedar County was elected Vice President and Steve Kruger was elected Secretary/ Treasurer. Also elected were 3 new District Directors: Scott Salisbury from Logan County, Russell Flaming from Cedar County, and Stephanie DeNaeyer from Cherry County.

State Fair Board elections were also held.   Re-elected were Steve Wehrbein from Cass County and Bob Hagg from Red Willow County. Newly elected was Tom Schellpeper from Stanton County. 

 Bill Ogg, Executive Director of the Nebraska State, talked about the modifications that were made for the Pandemic during 2020, and the plans for the State Fair this coming year.

After the meeting, Bill Voss and Greg Heine led a discussion about the changes that were made by the counties that were able to hold a fair in 2020, and how to move forward with plans for the 2021 fairs.

With a chance of snow in the forecast and freezing drizzle, the meeting concluded around 3:30.
